Shakedown Swing
Ngā Tikanga Matatika, Ngā Paerewa / Code of Conduct

Attendees

Welcome aboard for a fantastic weekend of dancing, whanaungatanga, and fun. To ensure a great time for all, please take note of the following guidelines.

Manaakitanga. Be Respectful to Everyone

  • Feedback:
We're all here to dance, please understand that not everyone wants feedback at the same time or in the same manner. Please refrain from offering unsolicited feedback, whether it's during workshops or on the social floor.
  • Boundaries and Consent:
Respect personal space and preferences. Don’t put anyone into moves they’re not comfortable with—if you are not sure it's best to avoid. Remember, anyone can decline a dance without explanation.
  • Respect for Diversity:
Our community values inclusivity. Harassment or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. Show respect across all demographics and backgrounds.

Haumaru. Safety and Reporting

Your safety matters. Any behaviour compromising safety or comfort, including inappropriate language or physical contact without consent, will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion from the event.

If you witness or experience any form of unacceptable or harassing behaviour please don't hesitate to reach out to any of the crew, you can find us at the registration desk, email us at code03swing@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook or complete the feedback form. We are here to assist you and ensure that you have a positive experience.

If you sustain an injury during the event, please inform us immediately. We have first aid supplies on hand, as well as medical professionals on staff.

Consequences

Any form of behaviour that affects someone's safety or the respectful nature of our event is not tolerated by anyone, attendees and staff alike.

Depending on the severity, consequences may range from talking to the offending person to address the behaviour, removing them from a part of the weekend, or asking them to leave the venue immediately without warning, or refund. These conversations or actions will take place in private where possible. When a situation is significant, we may share information about the situation with our fellow event directors or others in decision-making positions.

Thank you for your cooperation in upholding these guidelines. Let's create an atmosphere of kindness, enjoyment, and inclusivity.

Staff

We are thankful to have you on the crew.
In order to keep Shakedown Swing a safe happy event we ask you follow a couple of additional guidelines to our Code of Conduct.

Pono. Act with Integrity

  • Maintain Professionalism:
Give contestants your full attention and avoid distractions or anything that could impede your judgement.
    This includes:
    • Chatting with other judges while judging, excluding consultations with the Chief Judge
    • Using your phone while judging
    • Consuming alcohol before or during judging
  • Respect colleagues:
Be punctual and speak respectfully about fellow staff members. Please refrain from discussing contest placements until scores are public.
  • Uphold ethical standards:
Disclose any personal relationships with contestants - this helps us prevent any conflicts of interest. Please consider the position you hold, and do not use this to provide undue influence on competitors for private lessons, coaching etc. It’s important to us that competitors are treated with respect.
We are confident you will be positive role models for our community, promoting a safe and respectful environment.

Consequences

We chose you for your community minded ideals and trust that you will meet these guidelines to the best of your ability. Failing to do so may lead to dismissal by the Chief Judge or Event Directors.
